Seacoast Fencing Club in Rochester hosted the Northeast Division Championships and national qualifier for fencers 15 years old and younger last weekend. The top 25% of the competitors are now eligible to compete at the National Championships this July in Atlanta, GA. Seacoast continued it’s 20 year streak of sending the most fencers to the Nationals, this year qualifying eight fencers from its two facilities in Rochester and Manchester, NH.
The top fencer for Seacoast was Nicole Chiang, of Hampton, winning both the U16 women’s foil and Y14 epee, and finishing second in two other events. Peter Shellenberger, of New Boston, won the U16 men’s epee, and was second in the Y14 epee. Charles Stine, of Lee, won the Y14 men’s foil. The Pentheny twins, from Litchfield, both qualified in U16 men‘s foil, with Jacob second, and Aaron third. The other Seacoast fencers who qualified for the Summer Nationals are Johanna Ebers and Emily Benz, both from Hollis, and Sucheta Tamragouri friom Nashua, all in Y14 women’s foil.
